Latvia: Inflation stabilizes in September from August

Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 4.2% in annual terms in September, unchanged from the previous month’s reading and among the highest figures in the EU.

Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+2.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +0.2% in August), housing and utilities (+4.1% vs +3.6% in August) and restaurants and hotels (+6.3% vs +5.5% in August). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+6.9% vs +7.6% in August) and recreation (+2.1% vs +3.7% in August).

Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 4.0% in annual terms in September, following a 4.1% increase in the previous month.

Lastly, harmonized consumer prices rose 0.12% in September on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.16% fall in the previous month.
