Switzerland: Inflation stabilizes in September from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 0.2% in annual terms in September, unchanged from the previous month’s reading but below market expectations.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for housing and energy (+0.7% on a year-on-year basis vs +0.6% in August) and transportation (-1.5% vs -2.4% in August). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.8% vs -0.5% in August) and restaurants and hotels (+1.3% vs +1.8% in August).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices rose 0.7% on a year-on-year basis in September, unchanged from the previous month’s reading.
Finally, consumer prices fell 0.22% in September in month-on-month terms, following a 0.08% fall in the prior month.
