Finland: Current account deficit narrows in April

Latest reading: The current account recorded a EUR 0.2 billion deficit in April, improving from the EUR 3.3 billion deficit clocked in March (April 2024: EUR 3.3 billion deficit). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account balance swung to a EUR 2.4 billion surplus in April (March: EUR 0.7 billion deficit).

The merchandise trade balance recorded a EUR 0.8 billion surplus in April, improving from the previous month’s flat reading. Merchandise exports shrank 4.3% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in April (March: -1.5% mom s.a.), marking the sharpest decline in six months. Meanwhile, merchandise imports fell 1.1% in monthly terms (March: +0.7% mom s.a.).
