Costa Rica: Economic activity records slowest expansion since August 2024 in May
Latest reading: Economic activity expanded 2.8% in year-on-year terms in May, which was a deterioration from April’s 3.6% increase. The outturn marked the worst reading since August 2024. Looking at the details of the release, growth in the manufacturing sector slowed while the construction sector shrank. That said, the information and communication sector accelerated.
Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of economic activity coming in at 4.2%, down from April’s 4.4%. On a monthly basis, economic activity declined 1.6% in seasonally adjusted terms in May, contrasting April’s 3.2% expansion and marking the worst result since July 2020.
