Canada: Inflation rises in June but remains mild

Latest reading: Inflation rose to 1.9% in June from May’s 1.7%, aligned with market expectations and well within the Central Bank’s 1.0–3.0% target range. The reading was driven by a softer fall in transport costs.

Annual average inflation ticked down to 2.0% in June (May: 2.1%). Meanwhile, core inflation ticked up to 2.7% in June from the previous month’s 2.5%.

Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.06% in June over the previous month, which was below the 0.55% increase seen in May.
