LDA Technologies (LDA) has announced a tenfold reduction in trade data distribution latency through its new VeloCT* plug-and-play cabling ecosystem, offering a 0.5 nanosecond one-way latency—compared to the 4–5 nanoseconds typically introduced by Layer 1 switches.

The VeloCT system eliminates the need for traditional Layer 1 devices in ultra-low latency trading environments by enabling direct fan-out of exchange data through a copper-based infrastructure. Its use of specialized twinax cables achieves a latency reduction of 0.6 nanoseconds per meter over standard copper and delivers additional gains when replacing fiber.

“We’ve found a way to reduce trade roundtrip latency by a very significant margin”

Vahan Sardaryan, CEO of LDA, commented, “There has been an ongoing discussion for a number of years in low latency trading about where the next latency reductions can be found. As we approach the speed of light, further significant reductions seem almost out of reach. However, with VeloCT, we’ve found a way to reduce trade roundtrip latency by a very significant margin, especially important for High Frequency Trading (HFT). This gives our clients a major competitive advantage: after all, replacing Layer 1 switches to slash data distribution latency by up to 10x is a very significant improvement. While other firms are looking to improve by picoseconds, we have taken a completely unique approach to the challenge and have redefined what it means to be fast.”

The VeloCT ecosystem includes rack-mountable fan-out modules, ultra-low latency cables, and modular accessories designed to support various network configurations. It reduces hardware complexity and cost while improving speed. The modules also duplicate data streams natively, eliminating the need for separate tap devices and enabling precise real-time packet monitoring and analysis.

Each chassis can support up to 22 modules and includes 1-to-4 and 1-to-8 splitters, as well as high-speed transceivers (SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD) that connect directly to servers, FPGAs, and network switches. The solution is targeted at the most latency-sensitive segments of the market, including high-frequency trading firms.

Live Data Acceleration Technologies, or LDA, was founded in 2010 as a consultancy and ODM firm specializing in FPGA-based acceleration. For the first several years, LDA worked directly and exclusively with a US-based company supplying IT services to private trading shops. Since 2016, the firm shifted its main focus to releasing new products under their own brand name.

The LDA team is a group of leading engineers that have worked together in various companies, and on numerous projects, spanning across multiple industries. A highly experienced and efficient core team that formed over 20 years ago, well before LDA itself, that brings extensive knowledge and years of experience designing products for different industries such as networking, information security, and trading.

LDA products range from small add-on cards to massive 4U HPC devices. LDA also offers a broad set of specialized industry-oriented solutions and standalone ultra-low latency networking IP Cores that can be used as part of its users’ FPGA logic.
