Fintech giant Revolut has launched a dedicated mobile app for its standalone crypto exchange, Revolut X, giving users across the UK and European Economic Area (EEA) on-the-go access to digital asset trading.
Initially launched in the UK in May for professional crypto traders, Revolut X offers more advanced features compared to the standard buy-and-sell options in the original Revolut app.
The app allows retail customers in 30 markets to trade more than 220 tokens and over 400 crypto pairs, expanding the reach of a platform that was previously limited to professional traders. Revolut originally debuted Revolut X as a desktop-only exchange in November 2024.
Revolut X directly competes with major cryptocurrency exchanges by offering fixed trading fees of 0% for makers and 0.09% for takers, regardless of trading volume. This pricing strategy could offer a more cost-effective option for crypto traders.
In a statement, Revolut’s head of crypto products Leonid Bashlykov said the app was designed to be “simple yet powerful,” catering to both beginners and experienced traders, while promising high levels of security.
Revolut, which is valued at $45 billion and claims more than 45 million global users, has been active in the crypto space since 2017. It introduced crypto staking services in mid-2023 and offers a crypto-linked payment card that converts digital assets to fiat at checkout. The company is also reportedly working on a stablecoin.
The app’s launch broadness Revolut X’s availability to everyday users just months after its limited rollout. According to Emil Urmanshin, director of crypto at Revolut, the move positions the company as a serious challenger in the growing European crypto exchange scene. “We’re only going to grow the exchange from here — our ambitions are big,” he said.
The release comes amid a broader push by crypto firms to solidify their position in Europe ahead of full implementation of the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. Coinbase and Crypto.com have already secured licenses under MiCA to expand operations across the bloc.
With this launch, Revolut joins the ranks of regulated crypto service providers racing to capture a bigger slice of Europe’s digital asset market.
