A New York couple says they’re recovering from a homeowner’s nightmare after a hired nanny became a squatter and refused to leave their property.
The couple says Barbara Molnar was initially seen as the perfect caregiver for the couple’s infant, reports The Cut.
But Molnar was fired after Jamie Carano Nordenström and husband Philip accused her of hosting an unauthorized pool party.
After being asked to leave, Molnar refused to vacate the couple’s guesthouse.
The dispute escalated with police calls, car towings and court battles involving sheriffs and judges.
Molnar was classified as a “licensee” and not a tenant due to no rent charged, affecting the eviction process under New York law.
In filings, the couple labeled her a “professional con-artist” with a history of unpaid rents.
Molnar denied all of the allegations and filed a wrongful-termination lawsuit.
The eviction process dragged on and was finally resolved when Molnar left the property after squatting from early June to August 31, 2025, following a court hearing that issued an eviction warrant requiring her to leave by September 10th.
